I will be flying to the UAE to meet my ship around Nov 20.  Going from cold and snow to hot and desert.  I will be joining the Zarga as a Junior Officer. After my first tour I will be promoted to Third Officer.  No crocheting out at sea...yarn takes up too much room but I have two large cross stitch patterns I'll be working on. I'll be back sometime in March I think.

Summer

1 min read
Halfway through my first summer home in years. I love Colorado in the summer. I've had the time to work on those big projects I couldn't do at school. I finally completed an afghan I've been staring at for years and I have two more lined up. I've been playing with my two dogs and shooting and fishing up at the cabin. On top of filling out endless amounts of paperwork for Shell.  I leave for training in late September then I'll start sailing for them as a Third Mate. Til then lots of yarning, movie watching and frisbee playing.

Yarn Bombs

1 min read
For the past few weeks I've been yarn bombing my school's campus. Just little things, on a light pole, on a tree... Well last night I put one on the fence surrounding the front yard of the President's house. It was removed by the time I woke up this morning, it didn't even make it 12 hours. The school colors one was also down today. The first two were up for weeks so I'll continue making them and see if the new ones get removed too. My school hates creativity and individualism...especially when there's an open house...

Third Mate

2 min read
Since my last journal...half a year ago...I got back from Europe, spent 2 wonderful weeks at home, went back to school, survived the semester from hell, went home for 2 weeks of studying, came back to NYC, took the USCG third mate exam, passed (only 13% did, I'm kinda proud), started the easiest semester ever and seen the world coated in a half inch of ice without classes being cancelled. While I do not update...ever...I do check dA about 15 times a day and look at all the deviations and read most of the journals and in general stalk everyones lives. My new year's resolution was to work on my projects every day and I'm doing really good. Several of us yarn freaks on campus have been working on projects for the Seaman's Church Institute Christmas at Sea program. I made 5 scarves, 4 in the last 4 weeks. I started a knitted vest and I'm crocheting a baby blanket for my boyfriend's roommate who got married in December and whose wife is now pregnant. Also working on more cross stitches, a couple large ones that are gorgeous. I also have the yarn and a pattern for a blanket for myself. I'll be graduating in May and plan to sail on my license and see the world.

Cruise 2010

Hello from Dublin, Ireland! I'm in an internet cafe now but I think I'll leave checking the hundreds of messages til I get back to the states and free internet. We're halfway through our 3 month stint on the glorious Training Ship Empire State. We've been to Spain, Greece and now Ireland and in a few days we leave and head back into the Med for Malta and France. Today is the halfway point on our 90 day cruise. All the underclass flew home today and the next batch came in. I have some gorgeous photos from Greece and Spain and I brought 6 cross stitches I hope to complete before I get back. I miss dA terribly and it kills me that we don't have internet on the ship. I promise to check everything you've all done when I get back.
